Using SOAP notes to find the optimal training frequency

Often the first few sessions are used to find the optimal training frequency. Typically you will have selected either T3-T4 or T3-T4, T4-P4, as the starting sites based on the information from the intake and protocol recommendations. You will start at some training frequency, such as .1 and work down in small steps to learn about the client’s response to each training frequency. It is very helpful to record the steps you have tried and the client’s response to being trained at that frequency.

To assist you, you can copy and paste the following into the Observation section of the first several SOAP notes.

Once that is done, double click on the word “Site” and replace it with the site, typically either T3-T4 or T3-T4, T4-P4. Then click on the first line that says “Frequency” and replace that with the frequency, such as .1 and then replace the word “Response” with a brief note such as “no effect” or “felt tired”. Do not use the Enter key to go to the next line. Rather, highlight the words “Frequency, Response” with the actual frequency and response. With this information you can easily refer back to what happened when you tried various training frequencies.
